Oponside Skatepark

Recently, Opon in Lapu-Lapu City officially opened the first and only skate park in the Philippines that has been financed by the local government. *cheers to that!*

This post might be new to you since I’m more into blogging travel destinations. But who doesn’t want to brag about this? A skate park with a small skate bowl in Lapu-Lapu! Plus music fest and skate competitions on that day. Anyone would brag about that one-of-a-kind event. And to support my friends who love skateboarding so much, let’s do this!
———————————————–
Street skateboarding has long been despised by law enforcement and even by people who don’t understand the value it brings to skateboarders. Some assume that because skaters have tattoos, wear ear gauges, and dress in worn or dirty clothes, they must be drug addicts, unemployed, and a nuisance to the public. That, my dear readers, is what we call stereotyping.

Many got excited to see the well known street skaters like JM Ocana, Edjer, Gene Tulabing, Chiong and the long boarder Dandoy of Grupo Nopo. But what caught the attention of everyone is how well the half German and half Pinoy skated that day. A pro skater in Germany who is sponsored by Favorite Skateboard and part of Marijuth skate crew!

I don’t have videos of him because there are already a lot on YouTube that are worth watching, lol. Anyway, while the skateboarding competition is happening, local bands will also be playing, like Sefyla, Tiger Pussy, The Line Divides, Shuffled, and a special guest, Mr. Ian Tayao.

Everyone’s enjoying and having fun that night that they almost forgot it’s Monday the next day. Anyhow, photos with Daniel are below.
