Bocaue Peak or Muffin Hill: Unplanned Overnight Camp

Cebu has a lot of camping sites to offer, and I have many acquaintances who love hiking and ticking things off their bucket lists. I feel a bit envious about it because, although I have tried hiking and camping, I don’t have enough experience to share. There’s a mountain climber club from my previous workplace, and they always invite everyone, including me, to try it out. But I always end up nodding and then pretending to forget about it, like a toxic avoidant person. LOL

Also, the year 2019 wasn’t very good for me (although the only one to blame are my choices in life lol). So, this was a great time for me to give myself a break, enjoy nature, meditate, and reflect on all my problems *laughs hysterically*

As I’ve mentioned, it’s been a rough year and I’ve been drowning myself in alcohol lately (yep, I’m not done with my life’s drama so please hear me out). Losing friends and having a sudden existential crisis weren’t part of my game plan but this is how life works and it’s not always on your side. *enter MMK theme song* Good thing my old friends didn’t forget that I exists and invited me to this quick overnight trip. *yay*

Bocaue Peak, or Muffin Hill, can be reached via different trails, but we took the Babag Trail because it’s the easiest. It’s called Muffin Hill because it looks like a muffin sitting in the middle of the Cebu mountains.

It had been a while since my last hike, so this was a bit challenging for me. It took us two hours to reach the peak, but overall, it felt like an easy trek for a beginner like me. Or maybe because I was too numb emotionally to feel everything haha!

Anyway, once we reached the peak, the boys started cooking and pitching the tents.

And guess what the rest of us did…. yep, just chilling like the useless letter “P” in the word psychic.

It was a fun night because I got drunk again and we had karaoke plus I woke up to a breakfast that’s already prepared for us! The only problem at Muffin Peak is that you’re too exposed to sunlight, and as early as 7 AM, it’s already too hot. So, we started trekking back to the jump-off point and reached it by 10 AM.

I also met new friends, which is great because I’ve been becoming more antisocial lately, and I need to socialize more. I just miss camping so much that it makes me mushy every time I think about it. So thanks to my friends who invited me, who will probably never read this, I guess, LOL. But still, I owe you big time!
