Conquering Osmeña Peak

Are you into hiking? How about camping? Want to see how Cebu looks from the top? Dreaming of becoming a mountaineer someday? Then this is the perfect place to start, especially if you’re from Cebu.

Osmeña Peak is known as the “Little Baguio” of Cebu because of its cool weather that really makes you feel like you’re in Baguio. It is located in the southern part of Cebu Province, specifically in Mantalongon, Dalaguete. The area is also known for its fresh vegetables like cabbages, cauliflower, and pechay. It is considered the highest peak on the island at over 1,000 meters above sea level.

Many first-time campers go here to stay overnight. In our case, we only stayed for about two hours since we just wanted to see how beautiful the place is. However, we’re still planning to go back and camp overnight. You can also traverse from here to Kawasan Falls, which takes about 4–5 hours.

How to get there?

From the South Bus Terminal, tell the conductor that you’re heading to Mantalongon, Dalaguete. Make sure to take a bus going to Dalaguete and not Barili, or you might end up like us, lost and heading in the wrong direction!

If it’s your first time hiking there, you can hire a guide from the locals for around 50–100 pesos. In our case, we paid 150 pesos, including the tip.

The Place

If it is your first time to hike there,  you can get a guide from any of the locals then pay them from 50-100. In our case, we paid 150 pesos including its tip.

When we got there, we can’t see any of the view but fog. I even thought it will gonna rain. Little that I know that we are surrounded with clouds lol. It was dark and cold but still appreciated the place and we just fathomed that we will never clearly see the view that day.

We were very hungry and a bit tired when we arrived. Good thing we brought 2 lechon manok, pork chop (courtesy of Jen) and a lot of puso (hanging rice). Suddenly, while we were eating, the fog disappeared and there came Mr. Sun burning us alive. hahaha!

Anyway, the photo below will show you how Osmeña Peak looked like when we got there. Creepy but pretty.
