Stressed from work and want a short break to relax and unwind? There’s an island just two hours away from mainland Cebu. It’s another gem Cebu can be proud of and comparable to Bantayan Island and Malapascua Island.
Summer has officially started, and we, as a team, were looking for a nice place to hold our team-building activity when we decided on Camotes Island. It was a great idea since I hadn’t been there yet. Yep, you read that right, I’ve never been to this place. And please don’t ask me why, because I don’t know either.
Camotes Island has been featured many times as one of the summer destination for its beautiful white sand beach. Aside from that, they also have caves, lake and even their own cliff jumping.
How To Get There?
Take a V-hire in SM for 50 pesos or jeep for 35 pesos. Arrival to the port will depend on how heavy the traffic is. In our case, since we are leaving IT Park at 3:00 am, we rented the company’s van and arrived there at 4:00am.
Tickets for RoRo is 180 pesos for economy and 200 pesos for air-conditioned
Tickets for Fastcrafts is 200 pesos for economy and 220 pesos for air-conditioned
Unfortunately, when we arrived there, the first trip is already fully booked so we have no choice but to wait until 7am schedule.
Where to Stay?
We stayed in a private beach house beside Bakhaw Beach and it has 2 big houses – one is non-aircon while the other one is air-conditioned. So we stayed in the non-aircon house, which is only 3,500 pesos that includes refrigerator, stove, utensils, speakers and can accommodate 15 number of heads.
We also rented their multicab for only 2,500 pesos with 6 destinations. However, if you wish to go to Bulikat Cave and Buho Rock then you’ll have to add 500 pesos.
After we changed into our swimming attires, we started immediately to since we arrived late than expected. First stop is…… Timubo Cave.
I’ve been to many caves already so this is not new to me. But one thing that made me amazed with this cave is that you have to trek deeper and even have to bend a bit for you not to hit the stones.
Second spot is Lake Danao where we had our lunch and stayed longer ’cause of their rides. lol
For 50 pesos for 30 minutes, you can enjoy their paddle rides.
Next stop is Bukilat Cave
And the last stop is Santiago Beach but unfortunately, we arrived there late already so we just had our dinner there.
After dinner, we went straight to the beach house and had some bottles of emperador and some chit chats. Next day, we took underwater pics using my GoPro camera.
Camotes trip with the team was super fun! However, there are some tips that you need to remember.
- There is no signal for Sun and Smart.
- No ATM in the island
