Calauit Safari Park in Coron: Is it worth it?

I’ll answer the question in this post’s title. YESSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSS because I’m dying to see the giraffes!

Well, Cebu has a safari and has giraffes there too and now that I realize it while writing this, I’m not sure why I haven’t visited our own Safari yet haha! But let’s put that aside for now and focus on Calauit Safari Park!

Since I’m going to Calauit Island because of the Dugong Encounter tour, I have included this in our private tour as well. But hey, ever since I was planning to go to Coron years before, this has always been one of my dream destinations.

How to Get There?

You can get there by van and travel time is 2 hours from Coron Town Proper but it really depends on the tour that you availed. If you book with Klook, it will only costs you 2,400 pesos each and that includes Black Island tour with lunch already.

So after our dive with the dugong, we arrived there at 10AM and started exploring the area. Unfortunately, their jeep for touring isn’t working and not fixed yet due to budget issues. hmmmmmm

The highlights of the safari are the zebras and giraffes, and they are truly lovely. The first thing you’ll see when you arrive are zebras roaming around. You will be advised not to get too close to them because they can kick very hard and may hurt you. Look at us trying to play everything cool. lol

Then we went to see the giraffes, where you can feed them using food provided by the guides. The feeding session is done per group, and since there were only two of us, we had more time with these cuties.

We really enjoyed feeding them. However, after hearing the stories from the guide who toured us, it seems there is an underlying issue that needs to be addressed and properly looked into. It’s truly saddening, and if there were a way to help save these innocent animals, I would have done something. But for now, all I can do is share the story behind Calauit Safari.

You can actually read about it HERE.

All I can say is, I did enjoy the tour but heartbroken at the same time. I just have soft spots for animals, that’s all, but who doesn’t? I just hope that their local government will support the safari park. *sniffs*
